"Shamrock Foods is helping to pioneer GS1 industry standards and Global Data Synchronization in foodservice," said Spencer Armstrong, Director of Sales, Tyson Foods.
Lawrenceville, NJ (PRWEB) September 27, 2011
The seventh-largest broadline foodservice distributor in the U.S., Shamrock Foods was honored for its “rapid implementation and superior execution of GS1 standards and Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) for complete and accurate data,” 1SYNC said. Shamrock is now retrieving product information on thousands of foodservice items through the GDSN.
1SYNC enables companies to connect and communicate with their trading partners on item information and improve the accuracy and efficiency of their collaboration. Using 1SYNC, companies register and synchronize supply-chain information through the GS1 Global Registry, which serves as a centralized information repository. The elimination of information inaccuracies helps companies achieve a wide range of business benefits.
Shamrock is a leader in GS1 adoption among foodservice distributors with its ramping and implementation of GDSN’s complete, accurate, and globally accepted data in its operations.
“To provide your customers with the best service possible, and to keep your purchasing, operations and transportation processes running efficiently, you have to have world class information on your products. This is an area we’ve always prided ourselves on, and our use of 1SYNC has taken us to the next level of excellence,” said Kent McClelland, COO of Shamrock Foods.
Retrieving data from 1SYNC has rapidly impacted Shamrock Foods’ business in many ways.
Lupe Gutierrez, Shamrock’s Financial Services Asst. Controller and project lead for GDSN, explained that “with 1SYNC, Shamrock has brand new ease of capturing and synchronizing product information on items Shamrock purchases, and the information stays updated, so it’s always reliable. Prior to 1SYNC, it took 8 to 9 months to cleanse product attributes, whereas, today it takes a couple of hours or less to sync a vendor’s item catalog. Data is so important – it impacts every area of our company, including our warehouse, purchasing, logistics and financial services processes to name a few. With 1SYNC data, Purchasing can buy more efficiently and our warehouse can store product without re-palletizing.”
A week ago, Shamrock started shipping out of its new Eastvale, Calif., warehouse. Gutierrez credited 1SYNC information with improving the warehouse’s ease of setup and industry-leading layout, because data such as accurate pallet information helped Shamrock staff rack it optimally for the best use of space.
Manufacturers that supply products to Shamrock are equally enthusiastic about their use of 1SYNC.
“We’re really pleased that Shamrock Foods, a fellow leader in the Foodservice GS1 US Standards Initiative and a valued customer of Lamb Weston, has implemented GDSN through 1SYNC,” said Mark Hayden, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain, Lamb Weston. “When customers like Shamrock retrieve our data from GDSN, they access complete and accurate information about Lamb Weston products. GDSN also allows us to publish product information and updates once and reach many customers. That consistency drives unnecessary cost out of the supply chain.”
The Kellogg Company also applauded Shamrock Foods for its efforts in the adoption and implementation of GS1 Standards and execution of GDSN synchronization. Mark Spliethoff, Vice President of Trade Development at Kellogg's Food Away From Home, stated, "We are proud to be associated with a company committed to working with its suppliers to improve efficiency, drive cost out of our supply chains and provide our mutual customers with comprehensive product information to better run their businesses."
Tyson Foods also added congratulations and thanks. "Tyson Foods is thrilled that Shamrock Foods is helping to pioneer GS1 industry standards and Global Data Synchronization in foodservice," said Spencer Armstrong, Director of Sales, Tyson Foods. “Complete and accurate data not only benefits Shamrock's operations, it also provides greater efficiency for Tyson's operations, too.”
Dan Wilkinson, Vice President of 1SYNC, said, “We are so proud to have Shamrock as a 1SYNC customer. Shamrock now has thousands of items synchronized in the 1SYNC data pool, and has effectively leveraged its use of complete and accurate data to drive excellence with their customers and in its operations, including their new California distribution warehouse. Shamrock is truly a PaceSetter and a positive role model for the foodservice industry.”
