“Consumers want to experience local content and GoLocalTV is the next extension of what we have been able to develop in our first year – the highest quality content delivered the way consumers want it."
Providence, Rhode island (PRWEB) September 28, 2011
GoLocal24 has launched GoLocalTV – a revolutionary daily video broadcast that features top local news stories, breaking news, sports, and weather. The local online news broadcast goes live each day at 4:00 pm and is available on demand for users. GoLocalTV is available exclusively on GoLocal24’s first platform – GoLocalProv.com.
GoLocalTV is designed for online users to get the most up to date and exclusive content developed by the most innovative local news organization.
“Consumers want to experience local content and GoLocalTV is the next extension of what we have been able to develop in our first year – the highest quality content delivered the way consumers want it. In our first year GoLocalProv.com was able to break the biggest stories with investigative journalism, and breathe of fresh air into sports, lifestyle – everything in the local Rhode Island market,” said Josh Fenton, CEO of GoLocal24.
GoLocalTV is profoundly different from local television news – it is all-local – and the stories, insights, research and interviews are nearly real-time. GoLocalTV is co-hosted by two young, ambitious reporters with a focus on the pace and attack of digital media.
Greg Berman, a recent graduate of Brown University who is from nearby Winchester, MA, has built on his background of writing and editing for his alma mater's Independent newspaper. Berman started writing last year for GoLocalProv and immediately began contributing bylined pieces to the site in channels as diverse as News, Politics, Business, and even Food and Lifestyle.
Lauren Marchett is a born and bred Rhode Islander, growing up in Cranston, attending Cranston West High School, and graduating from the University of Rhode Island. She drew on intern experience with Clear Channel Communications and WPRI-TV to enter the digital world with a keen desire to help change the media landscape.
Marchetti has already taken charge of her own camerawork and video editing at GoLocal, contributing regular pieces that will form the daily pulse of GoLocalTV. She also works for the New England Patriots as a cheerleader.
Consumers Shift Behavior to Local Digital News
According to Pew Research’s State of News Media 2011 – online news consumption has increased 17.1% and local TV news has decreased 1.5% in the past two years. In the Providence market the loss of local TV news viewers is more dramatic. WJAR-10 has lost over 50% of its viewers from its 11:00 pm broadcast in the past eight years.
According to Pew, the average revenues generated by local TV news, “when adjusted for inflation, has still dropped by almost half in just the past nine years.”
“Consumers want their news on demand – not at artificial times. GoLocalTV is a bold initiative to provide real-time news online – investigative, relevant, and all local. No stories about cute ducks who sleep with their owners from Mississippi,” said Fenton.
GoLocalProv.com is a content-driven Web platform that provides consumers with local news and information in a flexible way that enhances their lives. The site creates local news, all original content, and it does not aggregate or take third-party content like reprints of stories from national newspapers or the content of the Associated Press.
In just over a year – GoLocalProv has been visited by 698,994 absolute unique visitors and has delivered more than 5 million page views. Consumers visiting the site more than 200 times now exceed 70,000.
GoLocalProv.com features more than 40 local reporters, videographers, experts and MINDSETTERS™.
Repeatedly, GoLocalProv.com has broken news-cycle leading investigative pieces only to find traditional media, like A.H. Belo’s Providence Journal following days later.
