Ken Edwards, National Account Executive at SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals (Hauppauge, NY), one of the nation’s leading providers of computer, audio visual (AV) and trade show technology rentals and services, has been elected President of the Meeting Professionals International of Greater New York (MPIGNY). Edwards, who has been actively involved with the organization for almost three decades, is already demonstrating his leadership.

Since assuming the presidency this summer, Edwards has led several major initiatives reflecting the organization’s new vision – To create a supportive community for meeting professionals to achieve excellence for themselves and their organization.

MPIGNY has initiated a website redesign which will focus on achieving an enhanced member experience and leverage leading-edge technologies and social networking tools. The new website was launched on September 12th, 2011 to coincide with a member educational event. In addition, Edwards noted that the organization will be rolling out a new “Member Concierge,” a unique set of tools available to members online, at chapter programs and through direct communications. Perhaps most significant in terms of what Edwards hopes his legacy to the group will be is a heightened focus on leadership development and training.

According to Edwards, “Our chapter has made an investment in an experienced consultant who will work with our members to motivate them, train them and empower them to their full leadership potential. We also have embarked on an aggressive educational curriculum featuring additional programs, webinars and high-level presentations by subject matter experts.”

“It is my goal to use learning, networking and the latest Internet and social networking technologies to further raise the level of professionalism and performance in our industry and help our members succeed in their positions,” continued Edwards.

Kathie Stapleton, Executive Director of MPIGNY, said “I am so pleased to be working with Ken as President of the MPI Greater New York Chapter. He has been an active member as well as a friend for many years and has always supported our organization both personally and professionally. Ken was instrumental in creating an exciting new vision for our organization that will help us to meet and exceed the needs of our members. I am looking forward to helping him to achieve his goal of energizing our volunteers, increasing the ROI for our members, and making a meaningful contribution to the meetings industry in our city.”

SmartSource Computer & Audio Visual Rentals President and CEO Mike McClernon noted that Edwards’ involvement in MPIGNY has benefitted the organization’s members as well as their affiliated companies.

“Ken’s dedication to MPIGNY and its mission have inured many benefits to SmartSource and our clients. His leadership has enabled SmartSource to further demonstrate our commitment to meeting the needs of the Conference & Events industry,” said McClernon.

In turn, Edwards credits the MPI with helping him develop into the professional and leader he has become. “My goal is to continue building MPIGNY into an organization that takes the professional and personal experience of our members to a whole new level of excellence,” added Edwards.
At SmartSource, Edwards has been a consistently high performer earning top sales executive honors for the past several years.
