Metaplan US, a consulting firm that specializes in meeting mediation, facilitation, and moderation that drives consensus building, celebrates 10 years in Princeton, NJ. Building on its success, Metaplan US is expanding geographically, opening an office on the West Coast, as well as expanding the scope of its work beyond its current focus in the pharmaceuticals, devices, and diagnostics sectors.

Franz-Josef Tillmann, President and Managing Partner of Metaplan US, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the company in Princeton, NJ. Metaplan US, a consulting firm specializing in mediation of meetings that drives consensus building, has seen exponential growth in its first decade of operation.

Metaplan’s trademarked method provides dialogue-based consulting that creates shared understanding among teams where members with different functions are working toward a common goal, but have differing points of view. Metaplan’s approach is particularly effective for strategic planning processes, issue management and change initiatives.

Franz-Josef’s commitment and clear vision for Metaplan US have brought the company a long way. “When I first opened the Princeton office, it was a one-man operation,” he said. “Now we have eight Metaplanners in the Princeton office and we are continuing to expand.”

Driven by its success on the West Coast, Metaplan US is opening a new office in Los Angeles. To spearhead the establishment of this office, Caroline Pfouts recently joined the consulting team. Further geographic growth is also in the works. “We are considering potentially extending our business into the Chicago and Boston areas,” said Franz-Josef.

Plus, Metaplan US is broadening the scope of its work into industries beyond its current focus in the pharmaceuticals, devices and diagnostics sectors. Some new areas of interest include consulting for US government agencies, lobbying groups in Washington DC, information technology companies, as well as consulting for the auto industry in Detroit and Los Angeles.

In addition, the company is continuing to find more effective ways to help participants in remote locations have a greater sense of being in the same room by using virtual workshop formats. For “live” meetings, Metaplan is using an electronic moderation technique called the “eBeam,” which turns any ordinary white board or wall into an interactive surface, allowing the facilitator to directly manipulate a projected computer screen and make annotations.

As Metaplan US celebrates its 10th anniversary, Franz-Josef sums it up, “We are proud of our history and excited about further ‘Metaplanizing’ the US.”
