Colorado-based Coalfire today announced that it has become an Affiliate Partner of the Center for Identity at The University of Texas. Along with other sponsoring firms, Coalfire shares a common interest in research and education for meeting current and future identity management challenges that impact individuals, public safety, commerce, government programs and national security.
The Center pairs the depth, breadth of knowledge and talent at The University of Texas with its partners from industry, government, and academia to offer the best thinking and solutions available to enroll, authenticate and protect identities everywhere. The Center provides an unbiased public service, delivering trusted information concerning identity threats and protection.
“Coalfire has long been a trusted advisor to our retail, healthcare, government and financial services clients on identity management issues,” said Rick Dakin, Coalfire’s chief executive officer. “We look forward to contributing to the important work being done at the Center, and we are honored to be a part of the dialogue.”
The Center's Strategic Partner Program is the mechanism by which partners and academia collaborate and innovate. The Center’s mission leverages the talent and resources of The University of Texas to ensure the best business practices, policies, technology, legal and cultural knowledge are available to the Center for Identity membership to predict, thwart and prevent identity threats. Center partners join a team of research and education pioneers committed to transforming identity management barriers into opportunities.
Suzanne Barber, director of the Center for Identity, noted, “We are proud to have Coalfire join with the Center bringing their thought leadership and a wealth of expertise and experience in IT Governance, Risk and Compliance. Collaborations with Coalfire and our partners from law enforcement, financial services, government, and consumer services will surely enrich our research and education endeavors.”
Kurt Hagerman, managing director of Coalfire’s Dallas office and the firm’s Payment Card Industry (PCI) practice leader, will lead the company’s participation at the Center for Identity. In a presentation at the Center’s Symposium earlier this month, he was asked to introduce Coalfire and lead a discussion on identity challenges that his clients face. “Identity management is getting more and more challenging, especially given the increased availability and use of mobile devices, and the emergence of new payment technologies,” said Hagerman. “Our clients want to deploy these new technologies while also maintaining effective controls programs that keep them compliant with industry and government mandates. The Center is doing work that will inform and improve those identity controls.”
