The MindCross Professional Development Training for New Jersey Educators Program allows school districts and schools to meet the State’s training requirements for the Anti-bullying Bill of Rights Act.

Anti-bullying Bill of Rights was signed into law by Gov. Christie

On January 5, 2011, Governor Chris Christie signed into law P.L.2010, Chapter 122, known as the Anti-bullying Bill of Rights.

“The Professional Development Training for NJ Educators was developed specifically for schools and provides flexible, quality training at a fraction of the cost of traditional teacher in-service training.” Scott Hutton, Training Director for MindCross.

Anti-bullying and suicide prevention education has become a focal point of New Jersey schools and school districts. The New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, which went into effect at the beginning of the school year, has many schools and school districts scrambling to formulate plans on how they will meet the State's requirements. One area that is important to meeting the requirements is faculty and staff training. Administrators are attempting to put together training programs that fit their needs and budgets. The quality of the staff training, along with flexibility and time needed to complete, are as important as training program cost. While some schools and school districts are using traditional in-service professional development training many are seeking to utilize online training programs that allow them to meet the requirements quickly and without disrupting the school calendar.

MindCross Training, in partnership with National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) of Middlesex County, Inc., has developed an online training program that provides a series of online Professional Development courses for school staff. The program contains five courses along with administrative and reporting capabilities. Bullying, cyber-bullying, youth suicide prevention, substance abuse, and child abuse courses are all included in the program. "MindCross is proud that we can play a part in helping schools prevent youth suicide and reduce the impact of bullying within New Jersey schools”, says Scott Hutton, Training Director for MindCross. “The Professional Development Training for NJ Educators was developed specifically for schools and provides flexible, quality training at a fraction of the cost of traditional teacher in-service training.”

"We selected this program because it meets the State needs in getting our teachers trained on specific requirements. The courses can be accessed at any time of the day, so it is very flexible." states Kristine Christie of Carteret Public Schools.

The Administration System and reporting tools save hours and frustration for QSAC monitoring compliance. Some schools are reporting significant savings of thousands of dollars by eliminating the need to bring in multiple providers for the required courses. New Jersey districts including Carteret, Jamesburg, Hazlet Township and Sparta Public Schools are already using the Professional Development Training Program to meet the State training requirements.

New Jersey school districts and schools looking to meet the State’s requirement for the Anti-Bullying Act and more can get more information at the MindCross bullying education website or by contacting MindCross at 304.725.2617.
