Western International has announced the purchase of the Marriott Courtyard near the Abilene Mall in Abilene, TX. The hotel will be closed from October 1 to December 15, 2011 for a total renovation.
“Upon completion, we will in effect have a “brand new hotel” since we will gut the property and everything will be new including plumbing, air conditioning, all furniture, guest room beds, and a brand new extended Courtyard Lobby complete with a bar and food service” according to Gene Carter, owner and CEO of Dallas based Western International. Also, 1,657 square feet of new meeting space will be added.
“Additionally, we will create an “outdoor living area” featuring an outdoor grilling facility and a new outdoor swimming pool”, Carter said.
The property will be managed by Texas Western Hospitality, an affiliate of Western International. Western owns and operates the Marriott Residence Inn Abilene as well as fifty other hotels nationwide.
“We expect to bring a new level of service to Abilene;” according to Jeff Blackman, Western’s Executive Vice-President of Operations, adding that “Abilene has been very good to us at the Residence Inn, with great success there.”
The new Courtyard by Marriott will be managed by Darla Yarbrough, currently the General Manager of the Residence Inn. “She’s one of the best in the business,” says Carter. “She will bring an unparalleled level of service to the hotel.”
