Westerners have always looked for ways to redefine and improve the world around them and this year’s Celebration Weekend is dedicated to that spirit of individuality and innovation.
Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) April 28, 2011
Sunset magazine (http://www.sunset.com), along with presenting sponsor Chase Sapphire, invites the public to Celebration Weekend 2011: Make It Your Own on June 4th & 5th. At its 14th Annual Celebration Weekend, Sunset will open its seven-acre Menlo Park, CA campus to celebrate the DIY spirit of the West. Join Sunset editors, featured chef Rick Bayless, and experts from the worlds of food, wine, garden, home, and design as they share tips, tastings, demonstrations and inspiration that brings the “Make It Your Own” experience to life.
“Westerners have always looked for ways to redefine and improve the world around them and this year’s Celebration Weekend is dedicated to that spirit of individuality and innovation,” said Katie Tamony, Sunset editor-in-chief. “From Rick Bayless, whose passion for Mexican cuisine helped start a culinary revolution in this country, to the ‘Cargotecture’ Idea House, which demonstrates how even industrial materials—a shipping container in this case—can be elevated to high design, Celebration Weekend will introduce you to some of the West’s most exciting innovators in the worlds of food, design, garden and wine.”
Featured exhibits include:
Chase Sapphire Presents Celebrity Chef Rick Bayless
Celebrity chef and Top Chef Masters, Season One winner, Rick Bayless, joins Celebration Weekend for cooking demonstration of contemporary, fresh, regional Mexican cooking on June 4th and 5th. Chase Sapphire is offering cardmembers unique Sunset Celebration Weekend packages that include special access at the event, reserved seating, tickets, an exclusive breakfast with Sunset editors, as well as a meet-and-greet with Rick Bayless. Chase Sapphire will also be presenting two "Explore Your Passions" sweepstakes including a customized Hawaiian vacation and a Los Angeles vacation that includes dinner at Rick Bayless' Red O Restaurant. Enter to win at the event, or visit http://www.sunset.com/cw for more information and entry details.
Celebration Weekend Honda Civic Hybrid Giveaway Sweepstakes
For the third year in a row, Celebration Weekend sponsor, Honda, will be giving away a new car to one lucky winner! This year’s sweepstakes features a 2011 Honda Civic Hybrid. Enter to win at the event, or visit http://www.sunset.com/cw for more information and entry details.
2011 “Cargotecture” Idea House
A studio cottage converted from a shipping container, this year’s Idea House began its voyage to Sunset’s campus nine years ago departing from South Korea filled with 25 tons of consumer products. Since then, it has travelled half a million nautical miles to dozens of countries. Thanks to Seattle’s HyBrid Architecture, which breathed new life into this container, Celebration Weekend attendees will be able to tour this amazing 192 square-foot structure, complete with living space with sleeping for four, kitchen, bathroom, and broad covered decks. The ideal scale for urban density or rural retreat, the “cargotecture” home can be secured, relocated, and made as nomadic and off-the-grid as you want.
Sunset will show attendees how they can make this “cargotecture” their own through creative use of elegant finishes, furniture, accessories, decking, and landscaping. As with previous home and design installations at Celebration Weekend, this house is sure to draw lines of excited viewers!
Sunset’s James Beard Award-winning blog and One-Block Feast book will come alive through practical and inspirational seminars geared toward the backyard farmer—from unique architectural chicken coops to demonstrations on everything from beekeeping and canning, to beer making, growing mushrooms, and tending chickens. Sunset’s editors and special guests will share their personal triumphs, challenges and adventures in yard-to-table living.
To complete the “Make it your own” experience, Sunset has invited select members of the Etsy community to display and sell their unique crafts and products at Celebration Weekend. In the past few years, Etsy.com has enabled people to create a small business from the comfort of their home, connecting crafters with buyers from across the country. Sunset was one of the first magazines to report on this growing trend and we are happy to have these talented artisans at our signature event. Stay tuned for more details on the Etsy artists that will be joining Celebration Weekend this year.
With nine celebrity chefs, including special guest, Rick Bayless, featured over the course of two days, the main cooking stage is the place to be during Celebration Weekend. Tour the IKEA Cooking Stage and catch your favorite culinary star. Or, check out the Outdoor Kitchen, Sunset’s dream outdoor entertaining area brought to you by Safeway, and learn grilling recipes and techniques from invited celebrity chefs.
