Macchu Pisco LLC, the first company to introduce a super-premium pisco to the US market as early as 2006, continues its expansion across the United States into Illinois thus helping solidify pisco as the fastest-growing spirit category of 2011. According to the Association of Peruvian Exporters, pisco exports jumped 77% in the first four months of this year fueled by the demand in the United States, and today Macchu Pisco ranks as the second largest exporter of this distillate made from grapes.

While Peruvian pisco has a history in the United States that dates back to the Gold Rush days in San Francisco, pisco is undergoing a renaissance that accounts for a sales increase of 210% this year over the previous year. Macchu Pisco leads the category growth with its two distinct pisco offerings: Macchu Pisco, a single-grape pisco made from the Quebranta grape, and La Diablada, a blended pisco made from the Quebranta, Italia, Moscatel and Torontel grapes. Between both products, Macchu Pisco can boast being the most highly-prized producer in the market.

Melanie Asher, founder of Macchu Pisco LLC and Master Distiller & Blender, remarked: “It's incredibly important to us that as we grow our quality does not falter, and that’s why I make the commitment to live in Peru at least 4 months out of the year supervising all elements of our artisanal production…I think this is the key to our success.”

Success is indeed what the company can claim, with its eponymous Macchu Pisco garnering the top scores at the Ultimate Beverage Challenge in 2010 and 2011 and being touted as the highest-scoring spirit in the $20-price range from amongst 500+ world-wide entries. Likewise, La Diablada pisco has won top honors since its first outing in Peru’s Concurso Nacional del Pisco and most recently winning again a Gold Medal from the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago.

Lizzie Asher, President of Macchu Pisco LLC, expressed the company's excitement at adding Tenzing to their distribution network: "Like us, Tenzing has a founder [Ken Fredrickson] who understands today's complex spirits environment where buyers are looking for boutique offerings and yet also value...having this common understanding is crucial to reach the audience seeking premium products like ours." She concluded by acknowledging, "Chicago now has one of the top mixology scenes in the country with superstars like Grant Achatz entering the cocktail scene and Sable Bar being recognized at Tales of the Cocktail. This is the audience we hope to reach while being part of the Tenzing family."
