Metrix Contributes $30,000 Toward Tsunami Relief in Sri Lanka

Donation made on behalf of Metrix board member Johann Senaratna to The Methodist Church in Sri Lanka

On behalf of board member Johann Senaratna, Metrix, the field service software company, donated $30,000 to The United Methodist Church to be channeled to the Methodist Church in Sri Lanka, earmarked for its relief efforts to strengthen communities affected by the tsunami and the war.

The tsunami that struck Sri Lanka on the 26th of December 2004 devastated most of the villages and cities on the east coast of Sri Lanka and left hundreds of thousands homeless. More than 6 years after that, the affected areas continue to need extensive assistance in their unending struggle to return to normalcy. Similarly, war that raged on for over 25 years in Sri Lanka that ended over 2 years ago had left affected communities devastated and in dire need of assistance.

The first Methodist church in Asia was established in Sri Lanka in 1816, and it has responded to issues that affect the poor and marginalized. The church is working diligently on building sustainable and creative leadership among the communities affected by the tsunami and the war, towards alleviating the resulting economic vulnerability, and to assist in building up a future leadership among such people so that they may live in dignity, security, and harmony with all the communities around them. The Metrix donation represents two-thirds of the entire project fund raising goal.
