New York, NY (PRWEB) January 31, 2011

UN Youth Champion and actress Monique Coleman will embark on a world tour to promote the International Year of Youth. She aims to raise awareness on youth issues, encourage young people to use their ability to foster progress in their communities and urge the international community to take responsibility on youth issues.

“The purpose of the tour is to see first-hand what youth all over the world are experiencing. Through social media and streaming technologies, I intend to connect youth who may have previously felt worlds apart,” said Ms. Coleman.

The world tour will kick off in Sydney, Australia where Ms. Coleman will visit local schools, attend meetings with leaders of the Ministry of Youth and visit indigenous colonies. She will encourage collaboration between governments and their agencies, communities and corporate and philanthropic sectors to provide quality and culturally responsive education.

Throughout the year, Ms. Coleman will travel the globe to shine a light on the most pressing issues facing today’s youth. Using her online talk show Gimme Mo’ as a platform, she will connect youth worldwide and urge bridge building across cultures, religions and generations.

The International Year of Youth was launched on 12 August 2010 and runs through 11 August 2011. Youth, defined by the United Nations as people between the ages of 15 to 24, represent 18 per cent of the world’s population, or 1.2 billion people.

The tour will culminate the International Year of Youth in New York on August 12.
