SmarterLifeBetterPlanet.com is designed not only to inform people of simple, everyday ways to ‘go green’ but also to provide a space where they can share their own experiences and ideas.
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 20, 2011
As part of its “Smarter Life, Better Planet” series, which posts a new video featuring an environmental advocate on SmarterLifeBetterPlanet.com each day, Haier America is launching The Green Home Vision contest, a Facebook-driven event taking place on April 21st, the day before Earth Day. It will bring together experts, influencers, and consumers in a discussion about what’s possible for ecologically sustainable homes. Participants will be able to compare their current homes to new and emerging innovations in eco-efficient home design while they collaboratively construct what the ideal “green” home looks, as well as get an inspiring vision of what their home could look like in the next few years.
Fans who “Like” the Smarter Life Better Planet Challenge Facebook page and submit an entry on their vision will be entered to win a new Haier energy-efficient Front-Load Laundry washer and dryer set.
About the Smarter Life, Better Planet initiative, Richard Block, Vice President of Marketing for Haier America says, “SmarterLifeBetterPlanet.com is designed not only to inform people of simple, everyday ways to ‘go green’ but also to provide a space where they can share their own experiences and ideas, and start to challenge the misguided notion that the actions of a single person cannot effect change.”
“The Green Home Vision contest is a concrete extension of the Smarter Life, Better Planet mission. By encouraging people to come together and co-create the ‘eco-home of the future’—and tying participation to the reward of an energy-efficient home appliance that we feel has a place in that vision—we hope to inspire many people to collaboratively take the next step in ecologically sustainable home design,” Block added.
Visitors to the Green Home Vision page are invited to contribute their own ideas, read those of others, and dive into engaged online discussion. One winner, judged on merit, will win the new washer-dryer set, valued at $2,000 retail.
Participants can also visit The Smarter Life, Better Planet site to watch 26 videos that reinforce ecologically sustainable habits and ideas. In the opening video, Earth Hour Co-Founder Andy Riley presents the idea of “going beyond the hour.” The exponential growth of Earth Hour as a movement has shown that when taken by many people, small actions add up. The Smarter Life, Better Planet Challenge offers simple ways to put this concept into practice. Each day presents a new challenge. For example, the site has already featured New York Times blogger Jim Montavalli on credits for energy efficient cars; green living entrepreneur Kris Willey on giving children an appreciation for the natural world; and Colin Beavan, author of No-Impact Man, on taking action that benefits the environment and makes participants happier and healthier in the process.
