“Every homeowner wants to live in a house that feels comfortable and safe,” said Cynthia Baca, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada.

As foreclosures continue to impact the Las Vegas housing market, Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada – the local affiliate of the nation’s leading nonprofit working to preserve affordable home ownership – will renovate and repair the homes and lives of low-income homeowners throughout Southern Nevada in support of National Rebuilding Day, on April 30, 2011.

Held annually on the last Saturday of April, National Rebuilding Day is the signature event of Rebuilding Together that highlights the time and expertise the organization dedicates year-round to rebuilding property values and stabilizing communities. As a part of the organization’s mission, its nearly 200 affiliates located in 43 cities throughout the country, plan projects and brings national attention to the plight of America’s low-income homeowners and the communities where they live.

Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada and its community partners and 1,500 local volunteers will complete much needed repairs and renovations to 26 homes of low-income elderly, disabled, veterans and multi-generational family homeowners located in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson and Clark County, in just a single day.

As part of the organization's mission to preserve affordable home ownership and stabilize communities, Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada began its 2011 home repair and renovation season in March working on more than 50 homes, with an anticipated completion date of summer 2011.

“Every homeowner wants to live in a house that feels comfortable and safe,” said Cynthia Baca, Executive Director of Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada. “Proudly, the work we do, along with our volunteers and community partners, allows families to remain in their homes. That is an important contribution toward rebuilding our communities that, with time and continued community support, lowers the abandoned home and urban blight caused by foreclosures throughout Southern Nevada.”

More than 40 sponsors not only financially support Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada and National Rebuilding Day each year, but also mobilize their employees, who volunteer to provide repair support at various skill levels from exterior clean-up and painting to small exterior repairs. Emergency repairs such as roofing, electrical and plumbing are performed by licensed contractors paid by the local affiliate.
