Persian New Year or Norooz - “New Day” - marks the first day of spring, the Vernal Equinox, and has been celebrated by the people of Iran for at least 3,000 years. Occurring this year on March 19 at exactly 10:14 pm PST, this thirteen day festival concludes with a day of outdoor activities, Sizdah Bedar or Persian Nature Day, which often falls on April 1st. Persian New Year is observed annually by Iranians around the globe, including those living in the United States.

“An estimated 1.5 million Iranians have made America their home,” says Mindy Rosso-Gaemi, Community Manager at Greeting Card Universe. “Persian New Year is the most important and cherished cultural holiday for this community, symbolizing the coming of spring and the joy of new life.”

Central to the holiday is the Haft Sin or Seven S’s tradition, a ceremonial table holding items that symbolically represent spiritual values such as sprouted wheat for rebirth (sabzeh), dried lotus tree fruit for love (senjed), and apples for beauty (sib). Other symbols of Persian New Year include goldfish, tulips, hyacinths, Islamic geometric patterns, Haji Firooz , and the colors red, green, and white to reflect the flag of Iran.

“From traditional to modern, our artists reflect these cultural elements in their card designs,” says Rosso-Gaemi. Additionally custom greeting cards can be created within 48 hours at no additional cost by requesting changes or a totally new design from their artist community of over 4,500 freelance artists from around the world.

“Shoppers can personalize the inside of all cards at Greeting Card Universe with their own text and photo, making it easy and convenient to wish family and friends Eide Norooz Mubarak (happy new year)” says Rosso-Gaemi. “Shoppers will find classic Persian New Year cards as well as cards for a secret pal, my twin, neighbor, co-worker, babysitter, and even for someone lucky enough to celebrate a birthday or enjoy their very first Persian New Year, be it as a newborn or a newlywed couple. And of course, we have cards in Farsi too.”

Rosso-Gaemi concludes, “Once shoppers discover the ease of finding the perfect card online and the variety of Persian New Year cards we offer, they’ll never shop for cards anywhere else.”

Greeting Card Universe’s traditional and niche offerings of over 530,000 cards gives nod to the importance of choice and personalization in today’s marketplace and stays true to its tagline “any card imaginable.”
