Steve Badyna has been named Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific of Tempel, the world’s leading independent manufacturer of precision electrical steel laminations, President & CEO Mark Baker announced today.
“This region of the world has been and will continue to be the most rapidly growing market for our products,” Baker said. “It is important to have strong leadership in this area as many of our largest customers’ have, and will continue to, set up operations in order to supply the forecasted growth in demand for motors, generators, and transformers.”
Tempel has made large investments in China and India and having a local leader is critical to better serve customers and to capture market opportunities. Steve’s primary responsibility will be to drive sustained and profitable growth in the region by building upon Tempel’s resources and technology.

Steve’s broad range of experience makes him uniquely qualified for this critical role. Prior to Tempel, Steve worked in Operations, Quality and General Management roles in the paper and plastics industries. Steve began his career at Tempel in Chicago 16 years ago and has progressed through leadership positions in Manufacturing, Materials, as well as leading the expansion of Tempel’s Steel Service Center Division throughout NAFTA. He has also contributed to Tempel’s global development, serving as Manager, Business Development and interim General Manager in China during Tempel’s initial expansion in 2005, as well as working with the Global Steel Sourcing team since 2006. Since March 2011, Steve has been leading Tempel’s business in India, overseeing the building of a new plant and improving profitability.
Steve earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. After graduation, he served for four years in the United States Air Force. Steve also holds a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
