Tamils for Obama sent the president a letter wishing him a happy and successful 2012, and urging him to take measures to save the Tamils in Sri Lanka in 2012.
“We hope you will have the time and disposition to help the oppressed Tamils in Sri Lanka” during 2012, Tamils for Obama wrote to the president in a letter wishing the chief executive a happy and successful new year.
“It is that time of year,” said a spokesman for the Tamil organization. “This man has the most stressful and important job in the world. We certainly want to show him that he has friends who admire and support him. We also hope that he succeeds at his vital job.”
Tamils for Obama wished the president success in the coming year. In their holiday letter they wrote “We hope that in 2012 peace breaks out all over the world and that the U.S. and you get credit for it. We hope that you win all fifty states in next November’s presidential election, and that the Democratic Party gains control of both parts of Congress. We hope that unemployment recedes to acceptable levels and that prosperity blooms in every part of our great country.
“We wish a prosperous, happy, and healthy 2012 for you and your family,” the letter went on.
At the end of the “Happy New Year” letter, Tamils for Obama expressed their most heartfelt wish. They said “We hope that you will have the time and disposition to help the oppressed Tamils in Sri Lanka. Much good has taken place in many parts of the world on your watch, and we hope that helping the Tamils will be on your agenda in 2012.”

Tamils for Obama is a politically active group of Tamil Americans. We supported Hillary Clinton and then Barack Obama in the Democratic primary and US general election in 2008. We believe that over 70,000 Tamil civilians were massacred during the last weeks of the Sri Lankan civil war. We have watched the behavior of the Sri Lankan Singhalese victors after the war, and we strongly conclude that Tamils in Sri Lanka will only be safe when this unfortunate island is divided into two states.
