Integrated weather-driven demand management provides tremendous value to retailers and suppliers of consumer goods

Planalytics Inc. announced today that its Business Weather Intelligence® and Weather-Driven Demand information is now available in JDA® Demand. The integration enables companies to include weather intelligence in their demand planning process and more effectively manage the impact that weather has on their business.

Planalytics Weather-Driven Demand (WDD) percentages measure how much weather influences demand for specific categories across specific time periods and geographies. The WDD quantifies how favorable (the percentage “lift”) or unfavorable (the percentage “drag”) that weather has on demand compared to the corresponding period last year. Planalytics WDD information is accessible through the JDA Demand workbench view, a demand planner’s primary interface for reviewing and modifying sales forecasts, and JDA’s exception graphs, a view that identifies the largest forecasted variations in weather-driven demand.

The integration between Planalytics and JDA Demand allows companies to gain direct visibility to WDD information while managing the forecast within JDA Demand. Integration benefits include:

  • Consolidated Weather Intelligence: Information is available in one solution, simplifying updates to demand plans.
  • Streamlined Integration: WDDs embed directly into JDA source data eliminating the need for any field level integration.
  • Exception Driven Process: Large weather-driven variations in demand are highlighted, enabling companies to easily identify opportunities to proactively optimize demand plans.

“Integrated weather-driven demand management provides tremendous value to retailers and suppliers of consumer goods,” stated Scott Bernhardt, President at Planalytics. “Our joint customers can now more easily incorporate visibility to upcoming weather impacts into their demand planning processes within JDA and take actions that drive additional sales and optimize inventory.”

"Integrating the effects of weather into the demand management processes will undoubtedly provide value to those categories of products that are highly seasonal or weather dependent,” said David Johnston, senior vice president, Supply Chain, JDA Software Group. “Weather data and the forecasted impact on demand provide a source of competitive advantage that can be leveraged to promote at the optimum time and to better manage inventories based on the projected start and end of a season".
