According to the Phoenix Business Journal, if you have the money you’ll be able to buy one of the most historic symbols in sad American history. In January 2012, the hearse that carried John F. Kennedy’s body to the Dallas airport in November 1963 will go to the auction block. It was used to transport the casket and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy from Parkland Memorial Hospital to Love Field, where it boarded Air Force One. Barrett-Jackson auction will handle this sale.

This is a reflection of the marked increase in collector car enthusiasm in the recent years. Auction results indicate continued sales of historic automobiles and greater openings of car exhibits. In January 2011, Barrett-Jackson sold over $68,000,000 worth of collector cars. In January, there will be a new automobile exhibit opening at the Henry Ford museum. Other collector car auctions scheduled in for Scottsdale in January, 2012, include RM Auctions, Bonhams, Russell and Steele, Gooding & Company and Silver Auctions.

American Society of Appraisers (ASA) member Tom Simatos, ASA, said “the best US car museums are preparing for a continuing renaissance. Professional automotive appraisers accredited by ASA are actively monitoring the market to stay on top of industry trends.”
