American Century Investments, sponsor of the Expect Miracles Awards, has joined forces with the Expect Miracles Foundation in calling for nominations for the 2012 awards, which recognize the financial community’s commitment to fighting cancer. Nominations will be accepted through March 5, 2012.
Now in its third year, The Expect Miracles Awards honor financial industry firms and individuals for their efforts to eradicate a disease that will kill an estimated 572,000 people in the United States this year, according to American Cancer Society statistics. The 2012 Expect Miracles award winners will be announced at the 19th Annual Mutual Funds Award Gala, hosted by Institutional Investor on April 5, 2012 at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City.
“Once again, American Century Investments is honored to work with the Expect Miracles Foundation in recognizing the heroes in the financial community who are showing leadership in the global fight against cancer,” said American Century Investments Senior Vice President Mark Killen. “Our sponsorship of this initiative is a natural fit for our company, given the fact that 45 percent of American Century Investments’ profits support research to unlock the mysteries of cancer and other gene-based diseases.”

At the inaugural awards in 2010, American Century Investments Founder James Stowers Jr. received the foundation’s Lifetime Achievement Award. A cancer survivor, Stowers and his wife Virginia founded and endowed the Stowers Institute for Medical Research (SIMR), a world-class biomedical research facility committed to finding treatments and cures for cancer and other gene-based diseases.
“The Foundation is privileged to continue its partnership with American Century Investments, together celebrating remarkable heroes in the industry and the noble causes and charities they support,” said Expect Miracles Foundation’s Executive Director Christina E. Thirkell. “The Expect Miracles Awards empowers individuals to nominate their hero and celebrate the Financial Community’s valiant efforts in making a difference in the lives of cancer patients everywhere, joining the movement to make cancer, history.”
