Within the pages of the new Xulon Press book, Feliz Navidad: The Journey of the Magi ($8.99, paperback, 978-1-61379-109-7), is a Christmas fantasy that author Carlos Martínez Ávarez hopes will entertain, educate, and promote a positive aspect of Spanish cultural expression. This story is about the journey of the Magi. In the Bible, Matthew 2 gives an account of the wise men having reached their destination. Take a flight into imagination as the author asks the following questions: “Who are the three kings? What were their lives and the details of their voyage like?” This Christmas fantasy is an attempt to share the author’s traditions with his children and with the reader.
“I want people to enjoy the book for what it is: a new Christmas story,” the author says. “It is written in a simple and poetic style that many enjoy. I want them to walk away with an understanding of how Christian beliefs have affected Hispanic culture and the way we celebrate. One of my great joys is when my non-Hispanic friends have dressed up and participated in the celebration. I believe my book is a great way of preserving a Hispanic tradition. It’s a good conversation starter and promotes understanding of my culture.”
Inspired by his childhood memories of Puerto Rico and his desire to share his culture with his children, the author penned this book many years ago and had it illustrated in January of 1991 using pixel graphics. The author says that at the time he wrote this book, he believes he was put in a special place to do so. “Creative people who saw in me the ability for a greater potential influenced me in a way that encouraged me to produce this book,” he explains. “It was strongly influenced by my religious upbringing.”
Xulon Press, a division of Salem Communications, is the world’s largest Christian publisher, with more than 8,000 titles published to date.
