Chevy Sonic sedan and hatchback models achieve 5-star overall safety scores from the NHTSA

Tom Benson Chevy-one of the leading Chevy dealerships in San Antonio, would like to announce that the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic received a 5-star overall vehicle score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Sonic was tested under the new more stringent guidelines that were put into effect for 2011 models. General Motors has had 10 models earns 5-star safety scores since the New Car Assessment Program was started.

The NHTSA overall safety rating is based on frontal and side crash tests and rollover resistance testing. All three of the tests are combined to form the Overall Vehicle Score.

Chevrolet’s Sonic earned an overall vehicle score of 5-stars, which is the highest rating possible. The sedan and hatchback models are both considered 5-star vehicles and both have the same safety equipment and performance.

The Sonic is extremely good at protecting drivers and passengers in crashes and includes a number of standard safety equipment features including:

  •     10 total air bags that cover every direction
  •     Rollover sensors
  •     StabiliTrak electronic stability control
  •     Power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes with ABS, full-function traction control and panic brake assist
  •     Front safety belt pretensioners
  •     OnStar with automatic crash response
