Treehouse Agency, a leading enterprise Drupal developer, has released three new modules to improve and extend the power of Drupal’s core capabilities for managing and editing content. The updated BEAN, State Machine and OG Tasks modules all increase content managers’ efficient use of Drupal, an open-source web infrastructure and social publishing platform.
“We are happy to bring these modules to our clients and the Drupal community at large to make life easier for content managers and to expand Drupal’s overall ability,” says Michael Caccavano, CEO of Treehouse. “Our BEAN module is recognized as a foundational innovation in the use of blocks to display content. Given its success, we are working with the Drupal community to try and incorporate the concepts of BEAN into block entity support for Drupal 8.”
Much is often done to cater to site administrators, but a large-scale web platform can have hundreds of content editors and just a few administrators. BEAN empowers content creators and editors by allowing block types to be plugged in to any page in a website without having to deal with traditional administrative obstacles. Originally released in the summer of 2011, an updated recommended release of BEAN was rolled out in December.
BEAN was deemed to offer the fullest capabilities in shaping the role of block entities, along with block_api; interest has been shown in including this in Drupal 8 to unify its API. The structure of the pages on the Department of Energy’s web presence is powered by BEAN.
State Machine is a workflow engine that allows unpublished website content to be created and to undergo continuous revisions without interrupting the site’s performance. Using State Machine, the platform’s published content is unaffected and site functionality is maintained throughout the process.
Before State Machine, there was no easy way for a developer to create a workflow in code for multiple sites and to create tests for them without affecting the published pages of the site.
Created for a targeted audience, OG Tasks is an add-on to the popular Organic Groups Module. The Organic Groups Module allows users to split up a website into groups of content that are administered separately—microsites within the web platform.
OG Tasks allows automation of many mundane tasks associated with creating a new group—which in some cases may be an entire site—thereby saving significant time and energy. Automated tasks are created within the produced framework, eliminating the need for manual creation of components like navigation menus, contact pages, and landing pages.
All three modules are efficiency agents that enhance Drupal as a web infrastructure and empower content managers by simplifying their tasks. BEAN, State Machine and OG Tasks are all available for download at Drupal.org.
