The new poetry collection “unCommon Ground: Down-to-Earth Poems for Daily Living” (published by WestBow Press), by Frances Parker, is poetry inspired by family, nature and life. The poems are all of a spiritual nature, focusing on the incomprehensible lure of God.

Trivial things – a hutch full of rabbits, dishes left over after a church potluck, a bag of sugar, cleaning house – ordinary things and ordinary activities in which Parker discovers the extraordinary. She detects the activity and the voice of God in the routine things of life and shares them with readers in an unassuming yet surprising manner. Her poetry, focusing on everyday, common happenings, encourages readers to see God in the humdrum sameness of their busy lives. She shows that opportunities to experience Him are all around.

Despite the sometimes-trivial content, Parker reveals her ultimate inspiration for writing was her current relationship with Christ: “My journey from the bondage of a conservative, rule-ridden church to the freedom of a life with Jesus.”

Parker offers glimpses of God in the ordinary things of life. In “unCommon Ground,” she invites you to take off your shoes and discover something extraordinary in the everyday, uncommon ground beneath your feet.
