Graeme’s ability to acquire and launch strong properties, extensively grow and strengthen our portfolio, and nurture our team, has resulted in Diversified becoming a leading company in Australia and Asia.
Portland, Maine (PRWEB) January 09, 2012
Diversified Business Communications announced that Graeme Selby has stepped down as Chairman of Diversified Exhibitions Australia after 36 years in the exhibition industry. He was Managing Director of Australian Exhibition Services (AES) from 1982 until 2005 when he became Chairman, and focused on spearheading business development opportunities in Australia, India, Hong Kong, and China. Selby is based in Melbourne and plans to remain in the exhibition industry and to utilize his experience with the trade show industry in the UK, the Middle East, Australia and more recently Asia.
“When Diversified had the good fortune to acquire AES in 2000, we were even more fortunate to have Graeme Selby join our team,” said Nancy Hasselback, President & CEO of Diversified Business Communications. “Graeme’s ability to acquire and launch strong properties, extensively grow and strengthen our portfolio, and nurture our team, has resulted in Diversified becoming a leading company in Australia and Asia.”
Selby started with the Montgomery Group in London where he gained his initial exposure to the exhibition industry under the guidance of the renowned Bryan Montgomery. After a six year stint in the UK he returned to Australia and in 1982 founded the Australian Exhibition Services Pty Ltd (AES) with the backing of the Montgomery Group. He was the inaugural Chairman of the Exhibition & Event Association of Australia, a position he filled on 3 separate occasions.
During a visit to the US in 1999 Selby identified Diversified Business Communications (Diversified), a privately owned media company based in Portland Maine. By July 2000 Australian Exhibition Services was a wholly owned subsidiary of Diversified Business Communications. It was subsequently rebadged Diversified Exhibitions Australia in 2004.
Diversified recognized the competence of the Australian team and backed Selby’s judgment by supporting a series of successful acquisitions. In only a few years the Australian company acquired key independent shows including, the Good Food & Wine Show, the Australian Fitness & Health Expo, the Security Expo and the Australian Oil & Gas Exhibition. More was to follow. As DMG exited Australia, Diversified acquired Food Pro and DesignEx. The Australian event program which includes the flagship Fine Food exhibition established by Selby in 1984 is an increasingly significant component of the global Diversified event portfolio.
Selby has also been instrumental in taking the Diversified group into Asia. He effected an introduction which enabled the company to establish an event portfolio in Hong Kong. In 2007, Selby proposed to his US parent company that they should leverage their growth to the booming Asian economies, in particular India and China. Diversified initially focused on India where the company now has a subsidiary, Diversified Communications India (DCI). Based in Mumbai, DCI runs the market leading professional sound and lighting events, two publications and the recently launched Fine Food India which took place in New Delhi at the Pragati Maidan from 5-7 December 2011. After 11 visits in 2 years Selby is convinced that India offers a major growth opportunity for the exhibition industry.
