David Christian has come to believe that the world desperately needs unity within and among world religions to stem the tide of what he sees as “the selfish worldwide pursuit of Empire” which he says is causing the world to rapidly “go to hell in a hand basket.” With his new book, “Finding Jesus: To Learn Abba's Worldview” (published by AuthorHouse), the author hopes to help Christians remember the lessons that Jesus left for his followers.
An excerpt from the book:
How dare any individual claim to have found Jesus?! It might be ok as long as the Jesus I claim to have found is the Church’s Jesus. It’s the Church that knows and tells us who Jesus is; ours but to agree, or get twinges of guilt and use the church for reasons other than finding Jesus – or leave the Church and seldom look back.
My problem is that there are and always have been innumerable different visions of Jesus. Each of the four Gospels in the Christian Bible sees a different Jesus, especially John’s. Those four Gospels have different authors addressing different audiences in different times. And those times and audiences are significantly different from my time and me.
Christian hopes “Finding Jesus” will motivate other Christians to work together to help the institutional churches of the world to “return to being vitally important to the welfare of both rich and poor by getting up to date in the 21st century, something they haven’t been able to do ever since selling out to Constantine’s need to protect his Empire.”
