Lawyer and former State Senator and Assemblymember, Martha Escutia, announced today the launch of her new Spanish-language radio program, Hablando Derecho. The one-hour weekly program will debut on Los Angeles’ Regional Mexican radio station KBUE 105.5 and 94.3 FM, Que Buena on January 15th at 8:00 a.m.

Hablando Derecho is an informative and interactive radio show providing essential resources and information, with the goal to educate Latinos on local, state and federal laws so they may better defend and protect their legal rights. The program will feature topics that affect the Latino community such as health, education, politics, sexual abuse, domestic violence and access to the legal system.

“There is a great need for resources, education and legal literacy in the Latino community,” said Escutia, a founding partner of The Senators (Ret.) Firm. She continued, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to share my knowledge, legal expertise, and provide a forum where organizations and experts can offer crucial information to our community. ”

The radio program will include segments on current news headlines, analysis, expert interviews and listeners will be encouraged to actively participate by calling in to the program. Joining Escutia in this weekly one-hour program will be Gerardo Lorenz, seasoned radio producer and host.

The first show will highlight the highly controversial California Dream Act by exploring in depth the creation of this new law, the movement behind it, and how it will affect students and institutions. Special guests scheduled to participate in this program include Assemblymember Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), CHIRLA spokesperson Myrna Ortiz and Laura Rojas, a DREAM Act student.

“Hablando Derecho will be a great vehicle to inform Latinos in Los Angeles on issues that are not only important but vital to the health and well being of the community,” said Assemblymember Cedillo.

Hablando Derecho is scheduled to air on KBUE 105.5 and 94.3 FM until September 30th, 2012 and is sponsored by The Senators (Ret.) Firm, LLP. For more information on the program, please visit
