The Chrysler Group will build the Grand Cherokee diesel for North America and added 1,100 jobs in Detroit

Briggs Chrysler- one of the leading Chrysler dealerships in Lawrence, KS would like to announce that the Chrysler Group will be adding 1,100 jobs to the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit. These jobs will be added to help the company expand the Jeep Grand Cherokee lineup, which will now include a diesel version for North America. Briggs Chrysler is extremely excited for a diesel Grand Cherokee to come out and for the Chrysler Group to continue to add jobs to the city of Detroit.

Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of the Chrysler Group, believes in strengthening ties to Detroit and continuing to provide Americans jobs in the auto industry.

“We believe that investing in Detroit is not only the right thing to do, but it is a smart thing to do as we work to write the next chapter in our shared history,” Marchionne said.

The additional 1,100 jobs that the Chrysler Group is adding will be to help produce the Jeep Grand Cherokee and is also home to the Dodge Durango. The new jobs will be part of an operating patter called the 3-2-120 schedule. This will add 49 days of annual production for the company, while enabling employees to get an additional 49 days off per year.
