Automated Integration with External Database Tables, Custom CSS, Automated Template-based PDF Generation, Multiple Grid Entry Components, Application Upgrade Improvements

Rollbase, Inc., an innovator in cloud application and platform as a service (PaaS) technology allowing the rapid design, development and deployment of on-demand business applications, announced its latest 3.3 release now available to all customers and partners. The 3.3 release provides significant functional additions and enhancements requested by Rollbase's growing base of ISV resellers including the ability to quickly create a cloud application from any existing database-driven software application.

"The biggest new feature of Rollbase 3.3 is the ability for developers to treat external database tables as Rollbase object definitions. By doing this Rollbase can be used as a very fast and cost-effective way to convert any existing database-driven enterprise software to a cloud application in a matter of hours with minimal coding and no need to migrate any data," said Matt Robinson, co-founder and CEO of Rollbase. "In addition 3.3 includes a powerful way to auto-complete PDF forms with record data, ability to apply custom CSS throughout the platform, ability to use multiple grid entry components per page, and significant enhancements to the published application upgrade process. All of the new features and enhancements in 3.3 are the result of direct feedback from our successful ISVs who are pushing the limits of what Platform-as-a-Service can deliver out of the box."

The following is a summary of several major new features and enhancements delivered in 3.3:

External Objects:
Rollbase Private Cloud can now be used to integrate directly with other database tables and treat them as Object definitions. By pointing Rollbase to any table in a database Rollbase allows creation of an "External" Object definition to represent that table. These External Objects have almost all of the same features that native Rollbase Objects have, yet the actual data remains stored in the original table, rather than in Rollbase-native tables. In this way Rollbase can be quickly bade to use database tables used by other applications. This feature can be used to quickly migrate any existing database-driven enterprise software to a cloud-native solution without changing database schema or migrating data.

Custom CSS:
Custom stylesheets can be uploaded to make Rollbase applications look completely customized. Upload any CSS file as a Rollbase Hosted File and assign that CSS file in Account Settings to make use of it throughout an account. We have also published Appendix D in Rollbase in Action describing how to use build custom CSS: "CSS Classes Used in Rollbase User Interface".

PDF Forms as Document Templates:
Rollbase now supports PDF forms as Document Templates. Once a PDF form has been uploaded a mapping can be defined between fields in the form and any of a Rollbase Object's fields. In this way, when this template is used Rollbase will generate a PDF and automatically fill in its form fields based on the defined mapping.

Multiple Grids:
Before version 3.3 Rollbase only allowed the use of a single grid entry component on a New or Edit Object page for creating and editing multiple related records. Now any number of grid components can be placed on New and Edit pages, making the ability to create multiple different types of related records from a single form easy to implement in Rollbase.

Application Upgrade Process Improvements:
When an upgrade to an existing published application is installed, Rollbase presents a hierarchical tree showing all of the components in the application. The user performing an upgrade now has fine-grained control over what application components get updated with the published version, and which if any the user would like to not modify. In addition, a subtree also shows all components that have been deleted in the upgraded version, allowing the user performing the upgrade to choose whether or not to delete these components automatically or keep them.

Version 3.3 is immediately available to all Hosted Cloud and Private Cloud customers. For more information contact Rollbase at sales(at)rollbase(dot)com.
