Zinfandel Advocates & Producers Attracts Unprecedented Support

21st Annual ZAP Festival proves its popularity with wide range of business providing sponsorship

“There’s enormous interest in sustaining ZAP’s goals of education and also the study and preservation of Zinfandel as a historically important varietal in California,” explained Rebecca Robinson, ZAP's Executive Director.

The 21st Annual Zinfandel Advocates & Producers Festival, taking place January 26-28, 2012 in San Francisco, has elicited unprecedented support from numerous different businesses including non-profit organizations.

“ZAP has been extremely impressed by the support across a range of industries and non-profits,” commented Rebecca Robinson, Executive Director, Zinfandel Advocates & Producers. “Whether it’s banks or media or wine industry vendor businesses, there’s enormous interest in sustaining our goals of education and also the study and preservation of Zinfandel as a historically important varietal in California,” she added.

The Saint Francis Foundation is the title sponsor for Epicuria: Food & Zin Pairings, taking place on Thursday January 26 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., at The Concourse (635 8th Street at Brannan, San Francisco). TricorBraun WinePak is the title sponsor for The Winemakers’ Dinner: A Benefit With Taste, Viva Las Vegas, taking place on Friday January 27, 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. at The Westin St. Francis Hotel on Union Square.

Another key sponsor at this year’s Festival is Lot18, which connects consumers with producers of high-end wines. Through Lot18, a number of the wines ZAP attendees sample at the Grand Tasting will be available for purchase then and there. “We’re delighted to partner with ZAP,” says Kevin Boyer, Lot18’s Senior Director of Domestic Wine. “It will be easy and convenient for ZAP attendees to purchase through our kiosk, right after they’ve tasted the wines. The bottles will be delivered directly to their homes within a couple of days, ensuring that ZAP attendees are enjoying top-quality Zins for more than just one January afternoon,” he adds.

PBS television station KQED in San Francisco has also partnered with ZAP. “KQED is excited to be sponsoring ZAP’s 2012 Zinfandel Festival. We are proud to be part of such a vital Bay Area food and wine scene. KQED’s commitment to highlighting food on the public airwaves has been happening for more than 50 years and the public has shown their support of our focus with television shows like Check, Please Bay Area!, and our original blog, Bay Area Bites,: says Jacqueline Murray, National Marketing Director.

At a sponsorship level just below that of title sponsors are Caffé Umbria Coffee Roasting, Billet Transportation, California Glass Company, The Wine Spectator, Dillwood Burkel & Sully LLP, CPAs specializing in wine industry and non-profit organizations, and Hinman & Carmichael LLP, beverage law specialists.

The Golden Gate Restaurant Association and Dacor Appliance are sponsors of The ZinKitchen (staged during Epicuria). Sommelier Journal is sponsoring the sommelier workshops at ZinKitchen during The Grand Tasting.

BevMo has come on board as a major retail sponsor. “BevMo is focusing the Zinfandel message in its stores in northern California in honor of the Festival,” explains Rebecca Robinson. “They’ve also launched an email campaign to their 400,000 members, making sure that people are aware of this noteworthy opportunity to taste Zinfandel,” she added.

ZAP has expanded wine industry marketing association sponsors, including Amador Vintners Association, Historic Vineyard Society, The Lodi Winegrape Commission, Paso Robles Wine Country Alliance and Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley. Due in part to the support of regional groups such as these, ZAP has organized workshops and tastings on different Zinfandel growing regions during The Grand Tasting. “Our new venue offers more space and provides a platform to feature educational elements such as Zinfandel’s regionality,” explained Rebecca Robinson. “It’s unprecedented to have so many growing regions so well represented at an event of this type,” she added.

Sonoma State University and the culinary program at The City College of San Francisco are also participants at the Festival. ZAP supports The Donn P. The 21st Annual Zinfandel Advocates & Producers Festival consists of four events:
Epicuria: Food & Zin Pairings on January 26 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at The Concourse (8th & Brannan) in San Francisco. This informal dine-around expedition features pairings of 50 top Zinfandel wines with creations from master chefs.

Flights!: Forums of Flavor on January 27 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at The Westin St. Francis Hotel (Union Square). This in-depth seminar-style tasting features themed flights of Zinfandels presented by the winemakers and offers insights into the Zinfandel varietal.

Zinfandel Winemakers’ Dinner: A Benefit With Taste on January 27 from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. at The Westin St. Francis Hotel. Dress to the nines and bring your lucky charm to this glamorous reception and dinner where you will enjoy unusual wines chosen by your winemaker hosts.
