Optisense Networks, Inc., a design and manufacturing firm of medium voltage (MV) optical technologies for distribution automation announced today the appointment of Phil Davis, E.E. as Vice President of Engineering for the company’s optical current and voltage sensor products.
Formerly a senior engineering manager with CISCO Systems, Phil Davis was instrumental in the development of CISCO’s 4th Generation WiMAX solution and the development of a dual-concurrent 802.11a/b/g/n outdoor Wi-Fi Access Point – a design that has the best coverage and throughput of any product in the marketplace.
“System performance data is the core of the Smart Grid and the ability to collect and communicate information at the feeder and substation level is key,” says Stephen Prince, CEO of Optisense Networks. “Our medium voltage optical current and voltage sensors provide critical intelligence beyond the substation – but that intelligence must get to distribution control systems. Phil Davis brings deep RF and digital design experience to Optisense, ensuring that our sensor intelligence will integrate with industry’s IEEE digital communication standards and all prevalent utility specific communication protocols,” notes Prince.
Prior to joining Optisense, Mr. Davis held senior operations, manufacturing, and design engineering positions at Navini Networks and Nortel Networks. While at Nortel, he received the Wireless Networks Award of Merit for Innovation for his work with CDMA, TDMA and UMTS Base Station Controller development.
An MBA and holder of two U.S. Patents, Phil Davis has served as an Adjunct Professor of Digital Logic Design at Richland College in Dallas, Texas.
