Bill Jacobs Joliet- one of the leading Chevy dealers in Joliet, Illinois would like to announce that the 2012 Chevy Sonic recently received a 5-star overall vehicle score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This is a big honor for Chevrolet’s newest addition to its small car lineup and the people at Bill Jacobs Joliet could not be more excited.

The Sonic was tested under the new guidelines from the NHTSA that were started with the 2011 models. The New Car Assessment Program makes it more difficult to earn a 5-star overall vehicle score but General Motors has seemed to master safety by putting up 11 models with 5-star overall scores.

The NHTSA bases its ratings on frontal and side crash testing, as well as rollover resistance testing. All of these three tests are combined and they form the “overall vehicle score.”

Bill Jacobs Joliet and Chevrolet are very happy that the Sonic received the highest rating possible in the testing. Both the Sonic sedan and hatchback received the honor and proved that this vehicle is capable of withstanding an accident and providing a safe, practical commute.

The Sonic features a significantly strong body structure, which includes a single welded side ring unit and over 60 percent of the vehicle cage is made of high-strength steel. It also features many other standard features that include over ten standard airbags, rollover sensors, StabiliTrak electronic stability, OnStar and front safety belt pretensioners.

Bill Jacobs Joliet is very proud of Chevy in their latest safety feat.
