e-Builder is proud to sponsor the first bi-annual meeting of the Florida Chapter of the Construction Owners Association of America, this upcoming February 10th at the Hilton Orlando, 6001 Destination Parkway, Orlando, FL. This educational event will provide facility owner/operators and construction professionals with insights on the impact that the P3 (Public Private Partnerships) project funding method is having on capital project development in Florida today and beyond. P3 projects leverage limited funds by partnering with the private sector, also allowing private industry partners to bring innovative approaches, both in terms of funding and project delivery methods. This event will feature speakers from The University of Florida, Phase 3 Properties, and Becker & Poliakoff, and will draw facility owners from the State of Florida, and the architecture, engineering, and construction companies that work on their behalf. Download registration form here.
University of Florida speakers include Ed Poppell, University of Florida VP for Business Affairs and Economic Development; Carol Walker, Assistant VP, and Miles Albertson, Associate Director of Facilities. The UF team will speak on their Innovation Square Project, a developer-funded joint venture east of the campus. With 45,000 square feet of incubator space encompassing laboratories, collaboration rooms and other support areas, this expansive downtown-to-university, multi-use complex is meant to serve as a breeding ground for breakthrough ideas and products for tech-based companies. Neil Fox, CEO with Phase 3 Properties will talk about their experience financing state university projects for UCSD and other public institutions in California. Mr. Fox will also discuss how P3s can have a huge impact in the development of research, graduate housing, and clinical facilities in university campuses in the near future. Within Florida’s DOT, P3 projects are driving the development of the I-595 corridor in Broward County and the tunnel at the Port of Miami. Lee Weintraub, lawyer with Becker & Poliakoff's litigation and construction law practice, will discuss legislation impacting P3 projects in Florida, and what the changes will mean for future procurement policies and procedures.
This educational event fits with the Construction Owners Association of America mission to promote learning and leadership development of Owners and Developers, creating opportunities for owners to share ideas and learn through educational programs and peer network groups.
COAA was founded in 1994 to serve the interests of construction project owners. COAA is comprised of a diverse group of men and women representing construction project owners throughout America. COAA is dedicated to making a significant and lasting impact on the construction industry through its leadership by creating a unified, collective voice for owners' issues in the construction process.
Building Owners and Developers build, not as a primary business, but as a secondary objective. Owners and Developers stand alone in the complex, changing construction process, representing themselves in a major financial commitment. The management of the design and construction process requires knowledge of an industry whose technology evolves and changes continuously. It requires interfacing with all the groups involved in the construction process. Timing becomes critical to the owner's bottom line. Changes and decision-making endlessly occur. Disputes and litigation may become an issue. Owners and Developers, both public and private, have needed a forum. A meeting place to gather, share common goals, learn, discuss, survey the future and share a collective voice. These are the goals that fostered the founding of Construction Owners Association of America. For more info visit http://www.coaa.org
