MobileLutions offers an elegant and cost-effective solution for firms with enhanced fleet liability exposure in our Smartphone world

MobileLutions announced today that Robert Puelz, Ph.D., has joined as an advisor, for the MobiLoc product. Puelz, who holds the Dexter professorship of risk management at SMU’s Cox School of Business, will be advising MobileLutions on how to help businesses reduce the risk smartphones are adding to their enterprises.

“MobileLutions offers an elegant and cost-effective solution for firms with enhanced fleet liability exposure in our smartphone world,” says Puelz. “I am excited to help MobileLutions build market share, and in the process study the impact of his technology on cost-of-risk and public safety on our roadways.”

As the dangers of driving and using a cell phone continue, firms being held liable for their employees actions continue to move to the front of the legal process. It is clear firm’s need a technology solution to help enforce cell phone risk management policy, especially if the phone or the vehicle is provided by the business.

With the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) asking for a nationwide ban on cell phone use in moving vehicles and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) implementing fines of up to $11,000 per offensive for not using a hand-free device, the issue of distracted driving is now an accepted fact.

Larry Eppard, MobileLutions co-founder, says, “While laws and fines are a good start, they are very difficult to enforce. After 50 years, we are still trying to get people to wear their seatbelt. We must use technology to fix a problem technology created.”

Dr. Puelz research has focused on a variety of topics from information problems in insurance economics to the effect of legal rules in tort incidents to entrepreneurship. His work has been published in the Journal of Legal Studies, the Journal of Political Economy, the Journal of Risk and Insurance and the Journal of Risk and Uncertainty.
