Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine has created a new menu of handcrafted sandwiches and salads, plus cheese and charcuterie plates, available exclusively at Intelligentsia Coffee shops throughout Chicago beginning on January 16, 2012. Made fresh at Pastoral and delivered daily to Intelligentsia, all menu items will be branded Pastoral and offered at Intelligentsia’s three Chicago locations including the Broadway Coffeebar (3123 North Broadway), the Monadnock Coffeebar (53 West Jackson Boulevard) and the Millennium Park Coffeebar (53 East Randolph Street). All sandwiches and salads, plus artisan cheese and charcuterie plates, will be packaged to grab-and-go, and can also be enjoyed in Intelligentsia Coffee’s seating areas.

“It’s exciting for Intelligentsia Coffee to join forces with Pastoral, particularly since both companies originally started within blocks of one another in Chicago’s East Lakeview neighborhood—and have now both successfully expanded locally and also nationwide,” said Doug Zell, co-founder of Intelligentsia Coffee. “We share a similar mission with Pastoral to make high quality food accessible and approachable to our customers, and we consider Pastoral’s offerings as a perfect complement to our menu of Direct Trade coffees and teas.”

Initial menu items will vary every other day, and include a selection of sandwiches and salads, plus artisan cheese and charcuterie plates made fresh daily. Intelligentsia customers will find sandwiches such as a Turkey Artichoke Sandwich for $7.50, featuring locally farmed turkey, Asiago fresco cheese, lemon artichoke pesto and red onion on herbed ciabatta; a Mushroom Medley for $8, with goat cheese, portabella mushroom tapenade, Piquillo peppers, balsamic vinaigrette and red onion on herbed ciabatta; the Ham and Pear for $7.50 including Madrange ham, pear and honey jam locally made by Quince & Apple and crumbled blue cheese served on a baguette; a Turkey Salad Sandwich for $7.50, with locally farmed turkey, homemade prosciutto bacon crumbles, granny smith apples, red onions and mayonnaise on cracked wheat bread; an Adult Ham and Cheese sandwich for $8 including prosciutto, granny smith apples, pickled onions, Asiago fresco cheese and Dijon mustard on ciabatta; a Roasted Veggie Medley Sandwich for $8 with roasted vegetable tapenade, cucumber, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes served on a baguette; a Thanksgiving Sandwich for $8 with locally farmed turkey, cranberry orange chutney, Fromager D’ Affinois double-crème cheese and Dijon mustard served on a baguette; and a Salumi Italia with Molinari salami, smoked mozzarella, red wine vinaigrette and pesto on ciabatta.

Salads offered daily will vary and include a Mediterranean Salad for $7.50 with roasted artichokes, Roma tomatoes, balsamic onions, mixed field greens and red wine vinaigrette; a Spanish Salad for $8 with Manchego cheese, green olives with mixed Piparra peppers, diced Spanish chorizo, mixed field greens and red wine vinaigrette; and a Pear & Cherries Salad for $7.50 including dried cherries, Aderkase blue cheese, apple and pear jam locally made by Quince & Apple, mixed greens and red wine vinaigrette.

Customers at Intelligentsia will also find artisan cheese and charcuterie plates made fresh daily such as a Farmer’s Lunch Medley for $8 with handmade salami, chorizo, one-year cheddar, Mahon cheese, mustard and olives served with four toastettes; and a Midwest Lunch Medley for $8 featuring fresh chevre, Marcoot Forest Alpine cheese, Tulum cheddar and dried apricots served with four toastettes.

All menu items are subject to change, and will also vary by season.

“Pastoral is thrilled to join forces with Intelligentsia Coffee on the company’s new food offerings, and delighted that we’re able to work with one of the best and most admirable businesses started in Chicago,” said Greg O’Neill, co-founder and co-proprietor of Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine. “Our collaboration with Intelligentsia is a natural fit, and the Pastoral team is excited to share an exclusive menu of new sandwiches, salads and more with Intelligentsia customers everyday.”

Intelligentsia Coffee and Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine both started in the East Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, opening shops within blocks of one another at 3123 North Broadway (Intelligentsia Coffee, 1995) and at 2945 North Broadway (Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Bread & Wine, 2004). Both companies have since grown, opening additional locations and expanding nationwide.
