Fashion Flows in Aid of SOS Children’s Village

The SOS Children’s Village will receive a well needed boost as a result of the joint efforts of the Ritz Carlton Golf & Spa Resort, Flow and the local fashion industry for the second staging of “Escape to Luxury Couture”. The charity fashion show, which showcased the creations of 14 Jamaican and international designers, was staged recently at the five star resort and will be the subject of a television feature to be broadcast on Flow TV (Channel 100) in early 2012.

The event was a whirlwind of passion and drama described in the opening montage as “Starting essential conversations, celebrating a greener globe and enlivening fantasy without the remote control.” The participating designers hailed the organisers for affording them the opportunity to give back to a worthy cause and providing this avenue for presenting their work to a diverse audience of Jamaicans and visitors. Each designer provided an item from their collection for auction with proceeds going to the SOS Childrens’ Village.

Jeanette Lewis, Public Relations Manager at Flow sees the partnership with the Ritz Carlton Golf and Spa Resort as a wonderful avenue to give back while assisting the fashion industry which is a fast developing sector in Jamaica. “It is very important to Flow that we give back to the communities that we serve. We also constantly seek opportunities to support Jamaica’s creative industries, in this case the fashion industry, “ she explained. “Escape to Luxury is the perfect vehicle to achieve both goals, and we are pleased to be able to leverage the power of Flow’s technology to bring attention to the amazing talent of Jamaica’s fashion designers.”

The designers have embraced the initiative. Candace Peart of Kitty Fashions, is pleased with the planned feature.“ I welcome this feature from Flow i believe this will provide even more exposure for my work and I only see myself going forward from here,” she said.

Robert McFarlane of the Robb Anthony label, a casual elegant fashion line for males has added his support to the joint initiative of Flow and the Ritz. He noted, “This is a means to help me measure whether or not my designs are connecting with the people. I am also anticipating the business benefits that this kind of national exposure will bring.”

The dramatic display of high fashion was very well received by the appreciative audience comprised of the hotel’s guests and Jamaican fashionistas who were impressed with the detail and flair of the garments. Local designers included Yola Gray, Robb Anthony, T&T from Staysie's Boutique, Dnque Designs, ReCon, Voila, Candace Peart, Pablo Palair, Cinderella Hats, Ashley Martin and Kokobeenz. They were joined by international designers Spencer Antle of Island Company, Ernesto Castro and Mauricio Esquenazi.

26 year old Mauricio Esquenazi, a Colombian designer based in Miami, was an unexpected treat. While not originally scheduled for the event, the young designer who was vacationing at the resort seized the opportunity upon hearing of the event to present his brand Peixoto - a collection of swimwear themed "Such is Life in the Tropics".

The garments were worn by 30 models who walked a runway that snaked its way around the circumference of the centre lawns of the Ritz Carlton property, magnificently decorated by Tia Flora.
