The Captive Insurance Companies Association (CICA) is hosting its 2012 International Conference March 11-13 at the Westin Kierland Resort and Spa in Scottsdale, AZ. This year’s conference theme—Celebrating 40 Years of Captive Industry Leadership—recognizes that CICA, the industry’s only domicile-neutral captive insurance association, has been delivering educational programming targeting true business intelligence for captive industry professionals for 40 years.

“The CICA Program Committee has worked hard to put together educational sessions that focus on offering real solutions to real problems,” explained Dirk Heim, CICA Program Committee Chair. “Captive owners, captive managers, reinsurance brokers, and domicile regulators are just a few of the kinds of speakers who will be presenting topics. With decades of combined captive industry knowledge, there is no better place to learn and interact with peers.”

CICA’s conference program features two full days of intensive education sessions and a comprehensive tradeshow where captive owners and risk managers learn about and evaluate business solutions and ideas with service providers and domicile representatives. Ross Shafer, a six-time Emmy Award-winning comedian, writer, and network TV host will be delivering a keynote address on March 12. He is the author of four business books (Nobody Moved Your Cheese, The Customer Shouts Back, Are You Relevant, and Grab More Market Share). Ross will highlight case studies that illustrate the key qualities leaders must have to be competitive in today's business world.

In addition to the keynote address, industry experts will present a comprehensive program of education sessions from a uniquely domicile-neutral point of view. Highlights include a session on Utilizing Captive Best Practices to Avoid Common Mistakes and Drive Positive Results with Mary Jo Lopez; Jeffrey K. Simpson, The Stewart Law Firm; James Weisz, Weisz & Santagata LLP; and Michael J. O'Neill, President and CEO, American Contractors Insurance Group, Inc. This session will feature case studies that highlight the use of Best Practices to drive positive results and avoid common mistakes in operating your captive. Learn about the Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act of 2010 – Ramifications for Captives and Surplus Lines with Skip Myers, Partner, Morris, Manning & Martin LLP; Scott Sinder, Partner/Chair of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Steptoe and Johnson, LLC; and Jim McIntyre, McIntyre and Lyon, PLLC. The broad impact of this federal law will be analyzed by speakers who have been involved with the law since its inception. How did this amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act that was intended to streamline surplus lines compliance turn into a regulatory nightmare? What are the states doing to implement the law? Will captives be pulled into this whirlwind? Is there any planning that can be done to limit your captive’s exposure? Get the answers to these questions and more.

Other sessions will cover captives for mid-size organizations, regulatory issues, Solvency II, reinsurance, healthcare captives, employee benefits, predictive modeling, fronting, global captives and much more. Visit http://www.CICAworld.com to view the complete conference schedule.
