There is a lot of buzz on distracted driving and the use of technology to solve the problem, says Larry Eppard.

MobileLutions and Robert Puelz, Ph.D. of SMU’s Edwin L. Cox School of Business announced today the initiation of an academic study on how technology that addresses distracted driving, such as MobiLoc, can impact an organization’s fleet liability cost-of-risk. The goal is to gain insight into the accident frequency and severity impact of a technology solution to control cell phone usage.
“MobileLutions offers an elegant and cost-effective solution for firms with enhanced fleet liability exposure in our smartphone world,” says Puelz. “I am excited to help MobileLutions study the association between a software technology, cost-of-risk and public safety on our roadways.
With the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) asking for a nationwide ban on cell phone use in moving vehicles and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) implementing fines of up to $11,000 per offensive for not using a hand-free device, the issue of distracted driving is now an accepted fact. MobileLutions believes this type of study is long overdue.
"There is a lot of buzz on distracted driving and the use of technology to solve the problem" says Larry Eppard, founder of MobileLutions. "Even though it intuitively makes sense, we think a formal third party study should determine the metrics."
