New lighting retrofits save three HOA’s over $80,000 in a year

“Merit was the driving force behind our desire to change how we consumed resources as a community,” said Rod Hammersley, Homeowner Association Board President for 200 Brannan in San Francisco, CA.

Merit Property Management, LLC, a FirstService Residential Management company, announces today that Merit’s San Francisco team helped associations save more than $80,000 in a year by reducing energy costs and working on rebate incentive programs on behalf of three clients, 200 Brannan, Park Terrace and the Watermark.

“Merit was the driving force behind our desire to change how we consumed resources as a community,” said Rod Hammersley, Homeowner Association Board President for 200 Brannan in San Francisco, CA. “Working with Merit’s property management team has changed our building’s sustainable practices including our views on energy consumption, water efficiency, renewable energy sources, recycling/composting programs and reducing our CO2 emissions.”

To achieve these savings, the San Francisco property managers worked with local vendors, the City of San Francisco and Pacific Gas & Electric. Energy audits resulted in lighting retrofits as well as reducing usage of ventilation systems in common area garages.

“Today's homeowners and board members are concerned about protecting the environment, saving money and living responsibly,” said Isaiah Henry, CCAM, Merit Vice President, Business Development. “Working together with our FirstService partners, we are exploring ways to reduce energy consumption, improve environmental sustainability and maximize cost savings in response to these concerns. Our clients in San Francisco have been onboard and we thank them for their willingness to conserve resources.”

Merit is spearheading sustainable programs throughout California communities along with offering energy audit reviews. Audits are then used to develop programs customized for each community to mitigate costs and reduce the carbon footprint.
