Singles ministry leader pens a new self-help book for single women

As a seasoned bridesmaid, Larissa Dayana Jean knows what it means to utter that familiar phrase, “When will it be my turn?” In “Lessons Learned as a Bridesmaid: what every single woman should know before becoming a bride” (published by WestBow Press) Jean shares a unique perspective of prenuptials from the point of view of a bridesmaid.

Jean shares the frustrations, pain and struggles that come with waiting on God to send a godly husband into a single woman’s life. Being a young Haitian American woman growing up in the U.S., she expresses the pressures caused by cultural timetables for marriage in her community, lessons she has learned about dating, God’s timing, and her most memorable experiences as a bridesmaid.

The setting of the book is divided between Atlanta and Athens, Georgia, where readers follow Jean from her teenage years through her college years, and as she establishes herself as a young professional. Jean aims to encourage all women – single women, brides-to-be and even married women – to know their identity in Jesus Christ and live their best lives. With “Lessons Learned as a Bridesmaid,” Jean delivers a sincere and transparent look at the world of bridesmaids: their wait, their pressures to marry and their desire to be a bride.

An excerpt from “Lessons Learned as a Bridesmaid:”
“The dress fit like a dream; my hair was just how I wanted it, and there were only five minutes to go until it was time to walk down the aisle—only, it wasn’t my special day. I was just the bridesmaid. Today (as many other times before) it was my friend’s day to shine. It was my turn to wait” (From the Introduction)
