Now is the right time to de-clutter your home or office so you can focus on the important aspects of your life. Shaws Solutions have come up with 5 top tips for getting started.

Deborah Shaw & Debora Jensen have teamed up to help clients regain a sense of organisation in their home and office environment. With over 15 years of international experience between them, they specialise in re-organising spaces with the goal to make it easy to maintain for the client. After the decluttering, they offer the option to update and restyle your home/office. They bring a new perspective to your environment, whether it be with an introduction of a new colour or simply repositioning your current furniture to create a new look and feel. Shaws Solutions utilises your current furnishings as much as possible and willingly work within all budgets.

Top tips: Put music on in the room you are about to declutter: It helps to set a positive mood. Have a snack at hand so a break can be easily taken.

Prepare for the declutter: Before starting, make sure you have a supply of boxes/bin bags, sticky labels and a Sharpie pen to help the sorting process along.

Declutter one room at a time: Start with a smaller area first, whether it be a drawer, cupboard or closet. Once you see the finished results it will motivate you to do more!

The Review Box: Items that you are unsure about donating or selling, they recommend that you put them in a box, to be stored and dated for future review. When that time arrives, and you have not missed anything in it, reassess and get ready to Ebay, Freecycle (http://uk.freecycle.org) or donate.

On your decluttering day: whenever you’re taking a break and standing in the kitchen waiting for the kettle to boil or food to cook, see what you can achieve in the kitchen area to help tidy it up.

Donate, recycle or sell: they find that if it is something you have loved or appreciated try Ebay first, if it doesn’t sell, then Freecycle or donate to your favourite charity shop.

Gifting to friends and family: If you have got books you’ve read, clothing that no longer fits and items others may enjoy as you once did, they can be gifted to those you know.

Have someone else help go through the de-cluttering process with you: If you are tackling an overwhelming amount of clutter, an outside perspective can be essential. With the client present, a professional can make the process effective and time efficient.
