Disease-specific websites like the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Hodgkin lymphoma website, FocusOnHL.org, will prove invaluable to patients and caregivers navigating a cancer diagnosis.

The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding lymphoma research and to serving those touched by the disease – is pleased to announce the launch of a new website for people affected by Hodgkin lymphoma (FocusOnHL.org). The new website provides visitors with information pertinent to Hodgkin lymphoma, including diagnosis overview and treatment options for the various types of Hodgkin lymphoma. The site also provides visitors access to the Foundation’s free patient and caregiver resources, such as disease-specific booklets, fact sheets and webcasts/podcasts.

Lymphoma – the most common type of blood cancer – comprises more than 67 subtypes of two related cancers that affect the lymphatic system, Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). There are six primary types of Hodgkin lymphoma, formerly known as Hodgkin disease. According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 9,000 new cases of Hodgkin lymphoma are diagnosed each year in the United States. Although the cancer can occur in both children and adults, it is most commonly diagnosed in young adults between the ages of 15 and 35 and in adults over age 50.

“Lymphoma is a complex cancer, and so providing those affected by Hodgkin lymphoma with information and resources that are medically accurate and focused on their particular type of lymphoma is critical,” said Diane Blum, LRF Chief Executive Officer. “The Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Hodgkin lymphoma website, FocusOnHL.org, empowers patients and caregivers to be their own health advocates by affording them the knowledge necessary to understand their cancer and to make informed decisions regarding their treatment.”

FocusOnHL.org also offers visitors the opportunity to register for the Foundation’s semiannual electronic newsletter, which provides the latest news and treatment updates for those interested specifically in Hodgkin lymphoma. The Hodgkin lymphoma website is part of a larger initiative of the Lymphoma Research Foundation to provide disease-specific information to those affected by lymphoma. The Foundation also has sites devoted to the following lymphoma subtypes: chronic lymphocytic leukemia (FocusOnCLL.org), follicular lymphoma (FocusOnFL.org), mantle cell lymphoma (FocusOnMCL.org), and peripheral T-cell lymphoma (FocusOnPTCL.org).

“As cancer therapies continue to become more personalized and targeted, disease-specific websites like the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Hodgkin lymphoma website, FocusOnHL.org, will prove invaluable to patients and caregivers navigating a cancer diagnosis,” said John P. Leonard, MD, Associate Director, Weill Cornell Cancer Center and Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology. “As a healthcare provider, I encourage all Hodgkin patients and their caregivers to visit the site and to use the many free resources that the Foundation offers to patients, survivors and their loved ones.”
