August Lodge and Spa owner Steve Stegman announced the extensive refurbishing of his Cooperstown hotel.
"Our goal is to maintain the lodge to a T," Stegman said.
Although the establishment is only a few years old, he intends to keep everything as new as possible.
To that effect:
- Recently the outside was completely refinished. The timber frame of Eastern White Pine and the siding of bevelled cedar was stripped down to the bare wood.
- Just this summer, in an effort to constantly improve the landscape, two new gardens were added - both flower and vegetable gardens.
- This month the lobby and the front desk area were refurbished. The front desk sports hand-carved wood, as does much of the August Lodge and Spa's adornments.
- Presently, the guest rooms are being worked on. The furniture is being cleaned and refinished, the carpets are being double-cleaned, and each room is being touched up.
"We love it when guests say, 'We came here four years ago when it was brand new, and now we're here four years later and it looks just as new now as it did then,'" Stegman observed.
The spa area is also being spruced up. The entire lodge is expected to be ready well before the baseball-tourism begins in Cooperstown this year.
