Tartan Yachts has accomplished something that no other sailboat manufacturer managed to accomplish this year, a double win for the same boat from both Cruising World and Sailing World in their prestigious Boat Of The Year competition for 2012. The Tartan 4000 took home the Best Midsize Cruiser from 40-45 feet in the Cruising World publication and Best Performance Cruiser in the Sailing World publication.

Both Boat of the Year Programs are regarded as the most authoritative and respected programs of their kind in the marine industry. The judges consider design, construction, seaworthiness, performance, purpose and cost when choosing the winners. Boat of the Year staff will be visiting the Tartan Yachts manufacturing facility in Painesville, Ohio Wednesday, January 25, 2012 to present this double award to Owner Steve Malbasa and all the factory associates.

Malbasa said, “It is an honor to win the Boat of the Year award from either publication, but to win the award from both magazines for the Tartan 4000 in the same year is very exciting. Our entire team here at Tartan Yachts takes pride in every boat we build and being able to accept the award at the factory surrounded by the whole team makes it even more rewarding.”

“This award is the perfect opportunity to recognize all the efforts that go in to making each and every Tartan 4000. From our crews that construct the hulls and decks to the designer Tim Jackett, of Jackett Yacht Design & Development it is truly a team effort to design and build one of these vessels,” Malbasa said.

When making their Boat of the Year announcement the experts from Cruising World and Sailing World said:

  •     The Tartan 4000 has "retained that classic Tartan look, but they’ve also given you ergonomics that work well throughout." Ed Sherman
  •     "People who want a solid vessel will be very happy with this Tartan." Beth Leonard
  •     "The stability of the hull is the best we’ve ever seen. The boat stood up to its canvas beautifully." Alvah Simon
  •     "The quality was the best in class: composite cored hulls and decks, infused with epoxy.” Dobbs Davis
  •     "It’s a well-built boat of thoughtful design that is a step above the other performance cruisers of this genre." Dobbs Davis
