Dataium, the largest aggregator of Internet automotive shopping activity, today released its monthly ASI report. The ASI index, a leading predictive indicator of automotive retail sales, climbed by over 10% in December, mirroring the trends reported in the previous year's (December 2010) ASI.

Import luxury manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz and Audi, posted another strong month in December growing leads by over 40%. Likewise, despite a bankruptcy announcement and dropping warranty coverage, Saab posted significant gains across all key performance indicators of the ASI.

December proved to be a favorable month for Japanese automakers Honda and Toyota, which posted 23% and 26% gains in lead volume respectively. Additionally two Honda vehicles, the Element and the Odyssey, exhibited the highest lead to visitor ratios of all new vehicles. To the contrary, Korean manufacturers, Kia and Hyundai, saw declines in inventory searches for the second straight month, down 43% and 31% respectively.
