Crane Composites, Inc. a leading manufacturer of building products used in schools and hospitals, has attained the elite GREENGUARD Select certification for its complete product line of fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) wall and ceiling panels.

Crane Composites is the only FRP manufacturer to have earned the right to use the GREENGUARD Select CertifiedSM designation which verifies emissions testing and compliance with standards pertaining to indoor air quality (IAQ). Only 2 other companies, with a total of 25 products combined, have met the GREENGUARD Select requirements up till now. Crane Composites expands that spectrum with more than 40 products that have passed the most stringent of the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) testing standards for commercial building products.

The GREENGUARD Select certification is the culmination of a testing and review process initiated by Crane Composites in December 2010. Earlier this year the company earned the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality certification and the GREENGUARD Children & Schools certification. Each level of certification screens for more than 10,000 chemicals, and places ever-tightening restrictions on VOC’s and other airborne emissions. To address the unique sensitivities of children and other vulnerable populations in schools and healthcare facilities, the GEI recently developed the GREENGUARD Select certification to meet updated scientific and market requirements.

Crane Composites quickly ascended to the top of the certification ladder because the product samples offered for GEI testing met all three levels of standards as they currently exist on the market. No re-formulation and re-testing were needed. The GREENGUARD certifications apply to Crane’s wide array of indoor FRP panels as well as to the ENGINEERED SOLUTIONS group of industrial panel products.

“From the manufacturing standpoint it’s very gratifying to have third-party validation that we’ve been doing it right all along.” remarked Karen Nebe, Product Manager for Crane Composites “This certification has meaning to our customers - it shows we are committed to the environment, and that FRP has a place in schools and hospitals.”

The GREENGUARD Select program certifies products for use in four specific environments: commercial, educational, healthcare, and home. Crane Composites sought and attained certification in both the educational and healthcare categories which are two primary markets for FRP panels. To maintain this elite certification, products must undergo both annual re-certification and quarterly quality monitoring tests. All products that have attained GREENGUARD Select CertifiedSM status are listed on the GREENGUARD website: http://www.greenguard.org To view the list click on the Find Products tab, then expand the Certification Type menu.

RESOURCES AND MORE INFORMATION:
The not-for-profit GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) is an ANSI Authorized Standards Developer, establishing acceptable indoor standards for indoor products, environments, and buildings. In keeping with that mission, GEI certifies products and materials for low chemical emissions and provides a free resource for choosing healthier products and materials. GREENGUARD Certification is broadly recognized and accepted by a number of “Green” building programs including: the state of Washington's indoor air quality program for new construction; the state of California’s Air Resources Board and Department of Public Health; the USEPA's procurements specifications; the recommendations from the World Health Organization; Germany's Blue Angel Program; the United States Green Building Council’s (USGBC) LEED® Green Building Rating System; LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC) and LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI).
