An aggressive promotion of U.S. travel and tourism is a key component for increased and sustained economic growth and permanent job creation.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) January 20, 2012
The Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) enthusiastically supports President Obama’s executive order introducing new initiatives to boost travel and tourism in the United States. White House data indicates U.S. travel and tourism represented 2.7 percent of the country’s GDP and 7.5 million jobs in 2010 – with international travel responsible for 1.2 million jobs.
According to a White House press release, this initiative “offers important steps to bolster job creation through a range of steps to better promote the United States as a tourism destination and improve secure visa processing. This is the most recent of a series of executive actions the President has announced to put Americans back to work and strengthen the U.S. economy.”
With emerging economies in China, Brazil and India expected to grow by 135 percent, 274 percent and 50 percent respectively by 2016, there is a need to increase visitor access to the United States for tourists who each spend thousands of dollars per visit.
The executive order charges several agencies to take immediate action to increase travel and tourism, including the Secretaries of Commerce and the Interior; the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security; as well as the Department of Commerce.
“We praise President Obama’s decision to help bring more international travelers to the United States,” said AAHOA Chairman Hemant Patel. “An aggressive promotion of U.S. travel and tourism is a key component for increased and sustained economic growth and permanent job creation.”
“Emerging economies such as India, China and Brazil offer tremendous opportunities for U.S. travel and tourism,” said AAHOA President Fred Schwartz. “International guests spend billions of dollars which create American jobs and support American small businesses. AAHOA supports efforts to promote our hospitality industry which will play a pivotal role in getting our economy back on track.”
