FreeRTOS Support for Infineon XMC4000 Family Released For Immediate Download

The immediate availability of a FreeRTOS port to the new Infineon XMC4000 microcontroller family that uses the ARM® Cortex™-M4 processor has been announced by Real Time Engineers ltd, owners and maintainers of the FreeRTOS project.

“FreeRTOS from Real Time Engineers is an excellent open source RTOS that fits to the new highly real-time optimized XMC4000 family,” says Dr Stephan Zizala, Senior Director Industrial and Multimarket Microcontrollers at Infineon Technologies.

The immediate availability of a FreeRTOS ™ port to the new Infineon XMC4000 microcontroller family that uses the ARM® Cortex™-M4 processor has been announced by Real Time Engineers ltd. The port and a pre-configured example application are available for free download and free commercial use from http://www.FreeRTOS.org.

FreeRTOS is amongst the most widely downloaded and used real time kernels. During 2010 and 2011 combined, FreeRTOS was downloaded more than 170,000 times. It now boasts support for 31 architectures and 17 toolchains. It polled top in 2010 and 2011 in an independent survey of embedded systems engineers asked to select all of the operating systems being considered for use ( http://bit.ly/e0fU1N )

The kernel is a portable, open source, royalty free, mini real time kernel designed specifically for microcontrollers. It is both free to download and free to deploy. It can be used in commercial applications and does not require proprietary source code to be exposed. A commercial license, support, and even a safety certified upgrade path is provided by High Integrity Systems, a global engineering partner company with a 60 year history.
