Pulmonary & Sleep of Tampa Bay Now Offers superDimension ENB for Diagnosing Lung Nodules

Pulmonary & Sleep of Tampa Bay now offers superDimension ENB for diagnosing lung nodules. The only facility in Tampa Bay area that uses this hi-tech detection and diagnostic electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy procedure for lung patients. This minimally invasive technology also can be used for earlier detection of benign or malignant lesions even among patients who suffer from poor lung function.

superDimension i-Logic, an innovative and far less invasive bronchoscopy technique for detecting and diagnosing lung diseases and lung cancer at earlier stages for easier treatment, is now available through Pulmonary & Sleep of Tampa Bay.

The superDimension® option does not carry the risks and complications associated with traditional bronchoscopies or CT guided needle biopsy. The new i-Logic™ procedure uses electromagnetic navigation technology similar to GPS (global positioning system) to guide the physician much more deeply into a patient’s airways to take tissue samples in areas previously inaccessible via traditional techniques. Electromagnetic sensors guide a catheter to the exact location where suspicious tissue resides and where a sample is taken and sent to a lab for cancer diagnosis.

This minimally invasive technology also can be used for earlier detection of benign or malignant lesions even among patients who suffer from poor lung function.

According to Dr. Dragos Zanchi of Pulmonary & Sleep of Tampa Bay, “superDimension is particularly valuable in the Tampa Bay area, where pulmonary conditions arising from smoking addiction and exposure to radon residues from phosphate production are prevalent."

His associate, Dr. Rafael Martinez adds, "With this technique, we can diagnose much earlier, more quickly, and much more safely on an out-patient basis to design the best possible treatment plan.”

To save patients from the anxiety and stress induced from multiple office visits to varying locations for the many steps required in diagnosis and treatment, the electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopies are performed at Brandon Regional Hospital as an outpatient procedure. Screening and diagnosis and quick referral to surgeons, radiology oncologists and other specialists are available in one convenient location. Patients are then treated at one of Pulmonary & Sleep of Tampa Bay’s comprehensive lung clinic locations: 311 Noland Drive, Brandon; 1907 Alexander Street, Plant City; or 4900 North Habana, Tampa.
