It’s The Circuit National Tour opener and one of the most highly anticipated tournaments all season.

One of the largest and most competitive tournaments on The Circuit, The South Florida Kickball Open (SFKO) just happens to be the first tournament of The Circuit season and will get underway on Saturday February 18, 2012. This is the fourth annual SFKO and will be held at Tradewinds Park (3600 W. Sample Rd.) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Last year the tournament attracted 31 competitive kickball teams from across the country, and this year promises the same if not a bigger turn out.

“This tournament is the Daytona 500 of kickball,” said Matthew Kemph, Founder/CEO of Kickball365. “It’s The Circuit National Tour opener and one of the most highly anticipated tournaments all season. You can tell The Circuit teams can’t wait to get back out on the field and get this new season underway. On top of that, you have one of the nicest vacation experiences at the SFKO. I can’t think of a better way to spend a February weekend than playing kickball on Saturday in beautiful weather and spending Sunday on the beach. It’s a great tournament, very well run by Jon Simon and his crew, and we’re happy to once again kick off The Circuit in South Florida.”

This year more than 500 players are expected to competed in the SFKO. On the line is the SFKO championship, which was won by Fort Lauderdale’s own Meatballs last year, and a cash prize to the winning team. There are also cash payouts for the runner-up and two other semi-finalists. The Meatballs will try to defend their championship against the likes of the Other Shot Callers (OSC), the 2011 WAKA Founder’s Cup champions; The New York Shower Hammers, the 2011 Circuit Cup Championship semi-finalist; and a host of other teams all gunning to get a fast start to the 2012 Circuit season. This includes 10 teams from the home state of Florida, five teams from New York, and teams from as near and far as Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Texas, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

“The tournament organizers have once again set up a very exciting tournament that will feature the top talent in kickball today,” continued Kemph. “Seeing teams from as far as New York, Chicago and Phoenix is a testament to just how well this tournament is organized, from the social events to the game day action. The SFKO is one of our marquis events and this year promises to be one of the best yet.”

The South Florida Kickball Open is just the first stop on the 2012 Circuit. Teams will compete over the next 10 months in an effort to amass official Circuit Cup points at events across the country. Those points earned will be used to determine the seeding for the true ultimate championship at the conclusion of the year, the Circuit Cup Championship presented by Complete Discovery Source (http://www.cdslegal.com). The Champion of the Circuit Cup will win $10,000 and the top sixteen (16) teams will also receive cash prizes. The full 2012 schedule can be found here.
