Michael has always been committed to utilizing his expertise and focusing on litigation to improve the industry and better-position it for the future. His ethical approaches fuel initiatives that drive action from agencies and regulators alike.

Michael L. Frost was recently recognized as one of Collection Advisors Top 25 Most Influential Collection Professionals of 2011. Mr. Frost is the Senior Vice President and General Counsel at CBE Group (CBE), a leader in the debt collection industry.

“This honor is reflective of Michael’s passion for influencing positive change in the debt collection industry,” commented Mr. Thomas Penaluna, President and CEO at CBE. “Michael has always been committed to utilizing his expertise and focusing on litigation to improve the industry and better-position it for the future. His ethical approaches fuel initiatives that drive action from agencies and regulators alike.”

Mr. Frost views effective compliance as more than a set of rules or principles. “If compliance initiatives are not founded on ethics and accountability, it’s just another process that may, or may not, get followed because it becomes natural to allow for situational dependencies to have an effect, said Mr. Frost. “Instead, let’s focus on the reason for the regulation and its purpose. Only by agreeing with its fundamental function can we develop ethical compliance initiatives and hold ourselves, and those around us, accountable for compliance.”

Mr. Frost’s efforts have made significant contributions towards CBE’s collective mission of “Defining the future of debt collection.” With the support of his colleagues, Mr. Frost has been effective in his efforts to:

  • Educate agencies, lenders and attorneys on best practices in litigation mitigation
  • Create case law that helps to better define outdated regulation
  • Lobby in Washington D.C. to help regulators understand the position of ethical collection agencies and how they are protecting consumers’ best interests while supporting economics and business
  • Build support of inside and outside attorney networks

“Michael displays the type of innovative leadership that is needed in the debt collection industry if we are going to achieve our mission to define the future,” said Mr. Penaluna. “He is well-deserving of the appreciation he has received from Collection Advisors and I fully expect his recognized efforts to continue cultivating positive change in the marketplace,” he continued.
